The images above provide examples and inspiration for significant improvements to the public realms of similar cities. Recommended strategies for Downtown Golden Valley include:
- defined gateways to the downtown district
- integration of off-street trail and mobility improvements
- large scale public art to aid in wayfinding
- configuration of current and proposed streets to support cultural events and active lifestyles
- improved identity and signage
About This Project
The City of Golden Valley is working to create a Streetscape & Wayfinding Framework that enhances the character, circulation, accessibility, and redevelopment possibilities of the downtown area.
Project Background
In 2021, the City published a study of existing conditions in the downtown area. While this study identified potential redevelopment patterns and land uses for downtown, this Streetscape & Wayfinding Framework will take the next step towards redevelopment and re-thinking streetscape and wayfinding design can improve circulation and access in the area.
What’s the User Experience Framework?
The project will identify and analyze existing downtown facilities, engage with the public to provide equitable and accessible input opportunities, highlight market gaps and use spatial modeling to determine development feasibility. The City will then produce access and circulation plans, streetscape and wayfinding guides, conceptual design standards, and a phasing plan for short to long term implementation.

Community Collaboration
This project is intended to be a collaborative visioning effort with the community and will rely heavily on feedback from the public. The City is interested in gathering input from a diverse range of community members and stakeholders to understand the existing user experience of downtown Golden Valley. Public engagement for this project will help identify important destinations and amenities, issues with access and circulation, and opportunities for improving the future user experience of the downtown area.
