In March 2020, the Golden Valley City Council authorized the SEA School-Wildwood Park Flood Reduction Project, a planning study to explore the next phase of the Medicine Lake Rd and Winnetka Ave Area Long-Term Flood Mitigation Plan (see map below).
As part of the planning study, the City and its consulting engineer will be updating flood models, engaging with residents and stakeholders, reviewing site conditions, identifying opportunities and challenges, and developing concept plans.
Primary benefits include:
reducing flood levels and damages to nearby homes, businesses, and infrastructure
improving public health and safety
Additional benefits include:
improving water quality
increasing ecological diversity
enhancing wildlife habitat for pollinators like bees and butterflies
creating educational opportunities for SEA School and the community
April-June 2020: Stakeholder meetings and community input
The City created an ArcGIS story map for residents to learn about the project and easily share feedback and take a survey. View the story map here.
July-August 2020: Develop concept plans
September 2020: Present concept plans for public review and comment
