Current News Posted on March 08, 2024

Shoes1To commemorate the Golden Valley Historical Society turning 50 this year, Jean McElvain, PhD, curator of the Goldstein Museum of Design, will revisit the fashion, history, and culture of 1974 (theSkirt Society's founding year) with a program on March 14, 7 pm at the GVHS Historic Church. The event is free and open to the public.

McElvain will return to the fashion and design of the 1970s through images from Goldstein Museum of Design's over 30,000-piece collection, telling stories of how and why the culture at the time gravitated toward colorful excess.

The Goldstein Museum of Design is the only design museum in the upper Midwest. As its curator, Dr McElvain brings a deep understanding of many facets of 19th and 20th century design, identifying relationships between everything from fashion to architecture. She uses exhibition curation and design to tell stories and guide research.
