Golden Valley will observe National Police Week from May 11 through May 17, 2025. This week honors law enforcement officers, especially those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Golden Valley Police Chief Virgil Green said officers with the Golden Valley Police Department will wear mourning bands over their badges during the week to honor the fallen officers.
President John F Kennedy established National Police Week in 1962 when he proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and designated the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.
The week is marked by ceremonies and events in Washington, DC, and across the country, bringing together law enforcement officers, survivors, and citizens to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in service.
This week also offers an opportunity to thank the local officers who serve and protect the community. If you see a GVPD officer while out and about, consider taking a moment to express your appreciation.
