Severe Weather Awareness Week (April 7-12) is the perfect time to prepare for the unexpected. Over the next several days, the City will provide crucial information on how to stay safe during extreme weather events, because knowing what to do before, during, and after a storm can make all the difference.
Outdoor sirens usually last around three minutes. If the siren stops, the threat may still be ongoing, and it’s important to keep checking for updates.
The City has its own emergency notification system that community members can sign up for. GV Emergency is a mass notification tool to help the City more effectively communicate with residents in the event of an emergency. It will provide important information via text, phone call, or email, depending on subscriber preferences. The system will only be used during community-wide or localized emergencies as well as in situations that may affect public safety or City services.
Key Alerts

Tornado Drill
On Thursday, April 10, outdoor warning sirens will sound at 1:45 pm and 6:45 pm to simulate a tornado warning. The first drill is for businesses and schools, while the evening drill is for second-shift workers and families. The City will also test GV Emergency at 1:45 pm.
