The City of Golden Valley is taking applications for residents interested in serving on boards and commissions, which provide recommendations on City matters ranging from zoning and environmental policies to public safety and community services.
Members are appointed by City Council and help research, review, and advise on policies and initiatives. Open positions include leadership roles, general memberships, and youth member opportunities across several commissions.
- The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) handles zoning-related matters and provides a space for property owners or candidates to present their case and seek relief from certain zoning restrictions or requirements. Ideal candidates are analytical, organized, and solution oriented.
- The Community Services Commission (CSC) supports human service needs in the community and advises the City Council on funding allocations for those needs. Ideal candidates enjoy helping others and are willing to volunteer at fundraisers.
- The Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Commission (DEIC) advises, recommends, and supports the City Council on matters concerning diversity, equity, inclusion, and human rights. Ideal candidates are passionate about advancing equity and justice initiative and expanding their intercultural competency.
- The Environmental Commission (EC) focuses on issues that affect the environment and human health. Ideal candidates are passionate about advancing environmental initiatives and preserving the environment.
- The Open Space & Recreation Commission (OSRC) advises on parks, trails, and recreational programs. Ideal candidates enjoy enhancing recreation and keeping up with recreation trends.
- The Planning Commission (PC) plays a key role in shaping city growth and development. Ideal candidates have a passion for shaping community and urban planning.
- The Police Employment, Accountability, & Community Engagement (PEACE) Commission collaborates with the community on reimagining public safety and fostering trust between residents and law enforcement. Ideal candidates care about public safety and social justice issues.
