Fiber internet, also known as broadband, is coming to Golden Valley, offering residents and businesses access to high-speed internet through privately installed infrastructure.
Over the next few years, several companies will install fiber optic cables in City right-of-way and easements. While these are not all City of Golden Valley projects, all work requires right-of-way permits.
Construction for fiber optic has several phases. First, utilities are marked by Gopher State One Call (GSOC). Next, crews use directional drilling to install underground conduit, followed by pulling fiber cables and completing splicing. Finally, affected areas such as grass, sprinkler systems, or pavement are restored.
After installation, residents can choose to contract with fiber internet providers for service.
