Golden Valley Police Department Prioritizes Staff Wellness Training

Current News Posted on August 23, 2024

GVPD-Wellness-Training-Aug-2024-2The Golden Valley Police Department (GVPD) held an in-service training Aug 22, 2024 as part of its focus on employee health and well-being to support stress management and fitness for duty.

A wellness expert talked with staff about the importance of healthy eating, regular exercise, and the right amount of sleep, among other related topics.

“Good mental and psychological health is just as essential as good physical health for law enforcement officers to be effective in keeping communities safe from crime and violence,” says Police Chief Virgil Green.

Officer wellness and safety is one of the six pillars of the 21st Century Community Policing task force report, which was published under the leadership of former President Barack Obama, Green explains.

Officers are given time to work out in the GVPD’s physical fitness training room while on duty, says Green. Off duty, they have access to a wellness app with a variety of resources for them and their families to connect with.

“We are making health and wellness a priority for our officers,” adds Green. “Caring for their well-being is an important part of me leading the men and women at GVPD.”
