The City of Golden Valley’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission (DEIC) is hosting a July 11 community forum titled “Hate Has No Home Here: Islamophobia In The United States Today.” The forum will be held 5–6:30 pm at Valley Community Presbyterian Church, 3100 Lilac Drive N, Golden Valley.
The session will include a presentation followed by a discussion on the significant increase of Islamophobia in the United Stated and its direct impact on local Muslim communities.
Tamim Saidi from the Islamic Resource Group will lead the discussion. Saidi has a degree from a Multi-Religious Fellows Program, a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Minnesota, and is currently pursuing his master's degree in Islamic studies and leadership. A former Afghan refugee who now serves as a volunteer imam at multiple mosques in the Twin Cities, Saidi has experience in education, student support, and community outreach.
This event is the second in a “Hate Has No Home Here” series hosted by the Golden Valley DEIC. The first session in April focused on antisemitism, and the next session, on transphobia, is scheduled Aug 8, 2024. Watch the City website for details.
