The City of Golden Valley will host a public introduction session for the three finalists for its City Manager position Thursday, June 20, 2024, 5:30-6:45 pm, in the City Hall Council Chambers. Community members are invited to attend.
After the candidates are introduced, they will answer four to five questions posed by a moderator. Comment cards will be available for attendees to share feedback with the City Council.
The City Council selected the following finalists from a group of 10 candidates identified by its executive search consultant, GovHR USA /MGT, following pre-screening of 58 applicants for the position.
Dr Reggie Edwards currently serves as the city manager for the City of Brooklyn Center, MN, which has 160 employees and a budget of $22.7 million. Edwards has 31 years of experience in local government, previously serving as executive director for Region Nine Development Commission in Mankato, city administrator for Chisago City, MN, and professor of government at Minnesota State University. Edwards has a PhD in educational administration and leadership from St Cloud University, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Central Florida, and a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and marketing, also from the University of Central Florida.
Michael Reese most recently served as the city manager for Maplewood, MO, which has 75 employees and a budget of $28 million. Reese has 27 years of experience in local government, having previously served 15 years with the City of Columbus, OH, leaving as chief of staff to the mayor in 2015 to become the director of local government for Ice Miller LLP. Reese has a Master of Arts in political science from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University.
Noah Schuchman currently serves as interim city manager for the City of Golden Valley and has 21 years of experience in local government. Schuchman previously served as the chief administrative officer for the City of Duluth, MN and prior to that served as the director of regulatory services for the City of Minneapolis, MN. Schuchman has a Master of Public Administration from Hamline University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Marquette University.
The City Council will conduct interviews with the finalists Saturday, June 22, 2024, beginning at 10 am in the City Hall Council Conference Room. The interviews are open to the public to attend in person and observe. “The City Council moved quickly throughout the process to ensure that candidates in this competitive market were not lost to other opportunities,” explained Pam Dmytrenko of GovHR USA.
Former Golden Valley City Manager Tim Cruikshank retired in March 2024 after nearly nine years with the City.
