The Golden Valley Garden Club (GVGC) launched its Pollinator Pathways initiative in 2024, working to connect isolated green corridors through pollinator pocket gardens. The first year saw the creation of seven gardens in the Medley Park area, with recipients agreeing to avoid pesticide use.
According to research by an independent entomologist, baseline insect counts in the project area revealed 340 insects from 24 species, primarily bees, ants, butterflies, flies, and beetles. Anise hyssop emerged as the top attractor, hosting the largest number and variety of insects. The entomologist will return to these gardens for the next two years to monitor the project’s long-term impact.
Pollinator Pathways was funded through grants from the Golden Valley Community Foundation and Room & Board, along with $1,400 raised from individual donors during Give to the Max Day.
