Earlier this year, the Golden Valley Garden Club (GVGC) selected seven homes in the Medley Park area to receive a free small pollinator garden as part of its Pollinator Pathways initiative in partnership with the City. The GVGC donated supplies and flowering native plants, and the homeowners planted and agreed to maintain the gardens without using pesticides.
Pollinator Pathways is a public-private-corporate effort to establish a healthier environment for pollinators, pets, and people for years to come. The goal is to develop pathways that connect the City's existing green corridors and native buffer zones with pollinator-friendly pocket gardens to provide nutrition and habitat for pollinators and help them to disperse into new habitats.
The GVGC hopes the seven newly planted pocket gardens (each approximately 3' x 5') will serve as neighborhood demonstration plots to inspire other residents to plant more pollinator-attracting species.
