The next monthly meeting for the Golden Valley Garden Club will take place Tuesday, Feb 27, 6:30 pm at Brookview. The topic is "Coppicing, Pleaching, and Pollarding: Ancient Practices for Modern Times." Chad and Rachel Giblin, owners and ISA Certified Arborists (MN-4668A, MN-4976A), will present.
Urban spaces and residential yards often limit the growth of many tree and large shrub species. The good news is most plants can be kept small through pruning practices and intentional timing. The Giblin's will give a brief overview of the history of ancient pruning practices like coppicing, pleaching, pollarding, and espalier. They'll present examples of these practices locally, nationally, and globally and provide ways for you to start out on your own.
Chad and Rachel Giblin are seasoned professionals in arboriculture and urban forestry. They own and operate Trees & Me LLC and Trees & Me Consulting LLC, focusing on high-quality tree care, aesthetic pruning, landscape maintenance, and urban forest management. Both are instructors in the Applied Arboriculture program at Hennepin Technical College and actively engage in arboricultural education, research, and outreach.
