The City began its annual crack seal maintenance project Monday, June 23 as part of its ongoing effort to extend the life of local streets and prevent pavement damage.
This year’s project covers a large portion of the city (see map below) and includes routing, cleaning, and sealing cracks in asphalt surfaces. A hot, elastic sealant is applied to keep water and debris out of pavement, helping to prevent potholes and surface failures. Cover material and blotting agents (such as toilet paper) may be used to prevent tracking while the sealant cures.
This work will not require road closures, though drivers may experience brief delays in active areas. If you have questions about the crack seal process, contact Street and Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Marshall Beugen at mbeugen@goldenvalleymn.gov or 763-593-8085.
