Around 4:10 pm Wednesday, April 9, Golden Valley police and firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at Xenia Ave S and I-394 resulting from a black SUV crashing into a concrete barrier. The driver escaped the vehicle safely with no serious injuries.
According to Police Chief Virgil Green, the driver told officers he was eastbound on the ramp to southbound Xenia Ave S when his brakes stopped working. Field sobriety tests showed a .111 breath alcohol content, and the driver was arrested and taken to the Hennepin County Jail, where he is facing one count of DWI Operating a Motor Vehicle Under Influence of Alcohol and DWI Third-Degree Driving While Impaired.
Golden Valley police and firefighters were assisted by St Louis Park police and firefighters.
