City Council Sets Strategic Directives

Current News Posted on March 25, 2025

Golden Valley’s 2030 Strategic Directives, set at a Jan 28, 2025 visioning session, outline the City Council’s objectives for the future with the goal cultivating stronger communities and ensuring sustainable growth while enhancing quality of life for residents and businesses.

The Strategic Directives focus on five key pillars of operation:

  • strategic (re)development, with a spotlight on Golden Valley planning districts such as its downtown area, the Douglas Drive corridor, and the I-394 corridor
  • infrastructure maintenance and enhancement at the highest quality for the investment by prioritizing areas of need, identifying costs, and planning for future growth
  • effective governance and management, with an emphasis on good communication and teamwork, transparency, respecting values and process, heeding meeting decorum and timely decision-making, and building citizen engagement and understanding
  • financial wellness that balances spending with maintaining current service levels, accommodating future needs, expanding tax base, growing reserves, maintaining bond rating, and improving efficiencies and effectiveness
  • community affairs, including consideration of policies that benefit society at large

A complete list of the directives under each key pillar is available on the City website.
