The Golden Valley Historical Society (GVHS) will examine the evolving image of the 1950s housewife in postwar America through magazine illustrations in a free public talk on March 13 at 7 pm at 6731 Golden Valley Rd.
Mary Agnes Ratelle, interim executive director of the Edina Historical Society, will explore how these images reflected both postwar prosperity and the constraints later challenged by the second-wave feminism.
A graduate of the University of St Thomas with an MA in Art History and Museum Studies, Ratelle specializes in historical fashion, women’s history, and visual arts’ societal impact.
