Police Employment, Accountability, & Community Engagement (PEACE) Commission

The mission of the Police Employment, Accountability, & Community Engagement (PEACE) is to help the Golden Valley Police Department (GVPD) innovate and transform its provision of public safety services based on community input, needs, and to assure the GVPD provides inclusive, community-centered service. The Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on matters relating to policing in Golden Valley and has the following responsibilities:

  • educate and learn from the community by creating and implementing a community engagement and outreach program to build trust and engagement between the police and community members
  • conduct research regarding current and historical policing practices, GVPD policies and procedure, and police data
  • present data and research to the City Council and staff
  • make recommendations to the City Council and staff based on research and community engagement
  • celebrate exemplary police work and positive contributions by community members

Join The PEACE Commission

Community members can now apply to join the PEACE Commission. There are 13 open Commission seats. The City Council strives to appoint members of all ages and backgrounds, including individuals with experience in social services, mental health, substance use disorder, policing, homelessness, education, criminal defense (as an attorney, defendant, or family member), and individuals that represent populations historically and presently harmed by policing. You do not need to be a Golden Valley resident to apply to serve on the PEACE Commission.

If the City does not receive qualified applications from one or more of the above categories, the remaining spots may be filled with any qualified applicant with substantial ties to the City of Golden Valley. Everyone who is interested in serving is encouraged to apply.
