A new City Council member and two new police employees were sworn in at the June 6 Golden Valley City Council meeting.
Sophia Ginis took the oath of office and was sworn in to fill the spot vacated by former Council Member Kimberly Sanberg, who resigned in May to move abroad. Ginis was appointed by the City Council May 19 from a pool of five candidates. She previously served on the City's Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. Her term of office expires Jan 2, 2024.
Police Chief Virgil Green administered the oath of office to Assistant Police Chief Rudy Perez and Sergeant Tommy Eam, welcoming them to the Golden Valley Police Department. Perez most recently served as a commanding officer with the Los Angeles School Police Department, overseeing two divisions in the east and south-central area of the city. Eam was previously a patrol sergeant with the Metro Transit Police Department.
