The May 16, 2023 Golden Valley City Council Meeting was the last one for Council Member Kimberly Sanberg, who has resigned to move abroad with her family.
Sanberg was elected to the City Council in 2019. She had previously served on Golden Valley’s Open Space and Recreation Commission since 2016 and was a founding organizer of the Golden Valley Pride Festival.
“It’s been an honor to work side alongside the community, my fellow council members, and City staff to make Golden Valley even better,” Sanberg said. “I’m especially proud of the critical work we’ve done in the past few years on affordable housing; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and reimagining public safety.”
“I know Golden Valley will continue to serve its residents, tackle tough issues, and be a leader in the metro and in Minnesota,” she added. “I look forward to following its progress from abroad.”
The City Council formally accepted Sanberg’s resignation at its regular meeting April 18 and adopted a resolution to declare a vacancy. Applications were open April 19–May 7. The City Council reviewed applications May 8–16 and will interview candidates May 19.
