The City of Golden Valley observed Arbor Day May 10 with a 10 am event at the SEA School on Kelly Dr. It included a forestry presentation, recognition of poster contest winners, and a tree planting ceremony with distribution of tree seedling packets.
This is Golden Valley's 36th consecutive year as a Tree City USA and its 11th receiving a Tree City Growth Award. Tree City USA is an Arbor Day Foundation program sponsored in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. It recognizes communities that have proven their commitment to an effective, ongoing community forestry program.
To become a Tree City USA, a community must:
- operate a forestry division
- have a tree ordinance
- manage a comprehensive community forestry program
- observe Arbor Day
At its May 2 regular meeting, the Golden Valley City Council adopted a Proclamation declaring May 10, 2023, as Arbor Day and May 2023 as Arbor Month in Golden Valley.
