The Golden Valley City Council is taking applications through this week to fill the vacancy left by Council Member Kimberly Sanberg's recent resignation. Applications close at 11:59 pm (via email) Sunday, May 7, 2023. They also can be dropped in person at Golden Valley City Hall until 4:30 pm Friday May 5.
According to Article VII, Section 6, of the Constitution of the State of Minnesota, candidates for public office must:
- be an eligible voter in Minnesota
- be 21 years old upon assuming office
- have resided in the district 30 days previous to the application
The City Council will review applications May 8–16, then hold a special meeting May 19 to interview candidates and adopt a resolution appointing a new Council Member. After attending orientation and onboarding May 22–June 5 to prepare for the first meeting and remainder of the term, the new Council Member will take the oath of office and be sworn in June 6. The term of office expires Jan 2, 2024.
The City Council formally accepted Sanberg's resignation April 18. Her last meeting will be May 16.
