April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a united nationwide effort to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and eliminate preventable deaths and injuries on our roadways. The Golden Valley Police Department and Minnesota Department of Public Safety wants to encourage everyone to take action to stop the distraction.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving killed over 3,500 people in 2021. Use the tips below to limit distracted driving on the road.
- Need to send a text? Pull over and park your car in a safe location.
- Designate your passenger as your “designated texter” to respond to calls or messages.
- Call out friends or family members who continue to use their cell phone while driving.
This month officers across the state, including Golden Valley, will be conducting extra enforcement to target distracted drivers.
