The single-digit temperatures expected over the next week have the Golden Valley Fire Department concerned for the safety of Golden Valley residents. Follow the tips below to help stay safe through these freezing temperatures.
Heating Safety
- Never use a stove/oven to heat your home.
- Space heaters need to be plugged directly into an outlet, not an extension cord, power strip, or surge protector.
- Keep flammable items at least three feet away from space heaters and lit fireplaces.
- Ashes from a fireplace should be allowed to cool completely and soaked with water before being placed in a garbage can.
Winter Weather Safety
Preparing for extreme winter weather is easier when you have a few days' notice. Keep track of weather on television, online, or on your phone so you know when to take action.
