On Thu, Jan 12, 7 pm, the Golden Valley Historical Society will begin a three-part series titled Voices in the Valley: Amplifying Under-represented Histories of Golden Valley. The Jan 12 program will cover work done by the Just Deeds Coalition uncovering racially restrictive covenants found through Golden Valley and surrounding areas.
The program will be led by Golden Valley City Attorney and co-founder of the Just Deeds Coalition, Maria Cisneros. Cisneros will address the greater cultural context in which these covenants emerged in the Golden Valley area as well as share other ways that racial exclusion was practiced in this area.
The event will be held Thu, Jan 12, 7 pm at the Golden Valley Historical Society (6731 Golden Valley Rd) and is free to all.
The series will continue Feb 9 with a program titled Unrepresented Voices in Museums and will end March 8 with a program called Elizabeth Scheu Close: Pioneering Mid-Twentieth Century Architect.
