On Mon, Dec 12, Golden Valley Fire Captain Tariq Bashir was awarded the West Metro Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Firefighter of the Year and EMT of the Year, Region 7 VFW Firefighter of the Year and EMT of the Year, and State of Minnesota VFW EMT of the year. Bashir was presented the awards by West Metro VFW Commander Gale.
Commander Gale stated that while the VFW works to honor and help United States military veterans, it also wants to recognize the service and sacrifice of those not in the military who serve our country by working in the fire service, law enforcement, and as emergency medical technicians. He also stated that as an outstanding Firefighter and EMT on both Golden Valley and Brooklyn Park Fire Departments, Captain Bashir exemplifies the kind of service the VFW wishes to recognize.
Captain Bashir was nominated for the West Metro VFW Firefighter and EMT awards by the Golden Valley Fire Chiefs.
