The City of Golden Valley’s new website is now live. While the main web address remains the same (www.goldenvalleymn.gov), individual web page addresses have all changed, meaning bookmarks and links to pages on the old site may no longer work. It can take up to 48 hours for some website visitors to see the change based on internet service provider and individual settings. Most visitors will see the change within one hour.
The project was originally scheduled for 2020 but was delayed due to COVID. In spring 2021, the City issued a RFQ that garnered responses from 18 web developers. The contract was awarded to CivicPlus, a company that specializes in municipal website development.
Prior to working with the contractor, the City surveyed residents in 2019 and 2021 to learn likes and dislikes about the current site and what aspects could be improved with a new site. City staff then spent much of 2021 evaluating existing content and structure to develop guidelines for the overhaul and redesign of the new website. The final step included user group and focus group evaluations by groups of residents.
The redesigned site features improved navigation and incorporates more accessibility tools, like text-to-speech capabilities and language translation.
