The Golden Valley City Council will host a swearing-in ceremony for Golden Valley Police Chief Virgil Green at its meeting Sept 6, 6:30 pm, at City Hall. Following the council meeting, a reception will be held at Brookview. Both the ceremony and reception are open to the public.
Chief Green says he's honored to serve as police chief for the City of Golden Valley, as it means a lot to him and his family.
"To have been selected as the first African American police chief in the history of the City says a lot about the direction and vision City leaders have for the future of the Golden Valley Police Department," said Green. "I look forward to all the amazing things we will do together."
Green also explained that he and the department will focus on keeping Golden Valley a safe place to live, work, visit, and raise a family.
"In order to achieve this goal, we must work as an innovative and collaborative team," said Green. "We will work hard together to lead our department and City into the future.”
Green’s 38-year law enforcement career started with the Lea County Sheriff’s Department in Lovington, New Mexico and includes time as a patrol officer with the Oklahoma City Housing Authority Enforcement Division and as police chief with the jurisdictions of Boley, Oklahoma; Spencer, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City; and Helena West Helena, Arkansas.
