According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, there is an affordable housing crisis across Minnesota and the nation. The disparity between the rate of white homeownership and the homeownership rate of households of color and Native American households in Minnesota is among the highest in the country. That crisis is even impacting residents here in our own community as that disparity is even greater in Golden Valley than that of the state. The upcoming Building An Equitable Golden Valley forum Aug 18, 5:30 pm at PRISM (1220 Zane Ave N) will discuss the housing crisis and what Golden Valley is doing to address it.
The forum will also include break out sessions and will discuss what barriers there are to building more affordable and inclusive house in the City, what are the City's future housing goals, and what tools does the city have/need to meet those goals.
The event is free and open to all. Activities will be provided to children and families. A light dinner will be served at 5:30 pm and the forum will begin at 6 pm. Community members can attend in-person or online.
