Golden Valley police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a carjacking May 16, 2022, at approximately 11:15 pm, at Breck Ice Arena, 4210 Olson Memorial Hwy, Golden Valley.
The victim said he was walking to his vehicle when a Black male wearing a dark-colored ski mask pointed a handgun at him and demanded his car. When the victim attempted to flee, the subject chased him until he fell down in the parking lot. The subject then demanded the victim’s car keys at gunpoint and fled the area in the victim’s black BMW. The victim wasn’t injured during the incident.
The Golden Valley Police Department put out a metro-wide notification about the carjacking and stolen vehicle to area law enforcement agencies. On May 18, 2022 Golden Valley police detectives were informed the stolen vehicle was recovered in Minneapolis by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department.
“While this incident appears to be an isolated and random event, our investigators are following up on all leads to apprehend the subject involved,” said Golden Valley Police Chief Virgil Green. “We want to remind citizens to be aware of their surroundings at all times at night, park in well-lighted areas, and never attempt to fight back during a robbery.”
