At its May 4 meeting, the Golden Valley City Council proclaimed May 4, 2022 as Arbor Day and May 2022 as Arbor Month in Golden Valley. To celebrate, the City planted a Native American Elm at Brookview Park.
This particular native elm tree was propagated from a tree found in the twin cities several years ago that survived Dutch elm disease while others surrounding it did not. Pathologists from the University of Minnesota then cultivated the tree because of its resistance to disease and it is now a tree available for purchase a local nursery’s.
