Heading into Earth Month and looking forward to Earth Day on April 22, the City of Golden Valley is taking this time to educate its residents on the importance of staying environmentally friendly while highlighting efforts the City is taking to be greener.
April 2022 marks the one year anniversary of the City's adoption of its Energy Action Plan. The plan stems from the City's participation in Xcel Energy Partners in Energy and focuses on reducing high energy cost burden, improving energy efficiency, and supporting clean energy. Learn more on the City's Energy web page.
More recently, the Golden Valley City Council passed a resolution declaring a climate emergency impacting the environment, economy, and human health. The resolution commits the City to working towards a clean energy economy and a climate emergency mobilization effort. To accomplish these goals, the City will:
- continue to collaborate with residents, businesses, institutions, and nonprofits to implement its Resilience and Sustainability Plan, Energy Action Plan, Natural Resources Management Plan, and Surface Water Management Plan, all of which contain goals, objectives, policies, and actions to help address climate impacts;
- continue to implement GreenStep Cities best practices related to energy, climate actions, climate adaptation and community resilience;
- consider the environment, energy, and climate in the development of its annual legislative priorities;
- continue to explore and secure the resources needed to fulfill its environmental goals and commitments, and more.
Throughout April 2022 the City of Golden Valley will be sharing tips on social media for lowering your carbon footprint.
