The Golden Valley Police have two suspects in custody related to a Feb 16 incident involving a reported suspicious vehicle and shots fired at pursuing officers.
The investigation revealed the suspects were possibly involved in several residential burglaries in multiple jurisdictions prior to Golden Valley officer contact. When Golden Valley officers located the suspicious vehicle, one suspect fled on foot while firing multiple shots at the officer. The shots narrowly missed the officer, striking the squad car and causing damage. The officer did not return gunfire.
Golden Valley Police, with the assistance of the State Patrol helicopter and K-9s from neighboring jurisdictions, located the suspect in a neighborhood nearby.
Charges are pending with the Hennepin County Attorney’s office. The individuals arrested are Marlon Terell Collins, age 30, of Brooklyn Park and Maiyah Mary Earney, age 30, of Minnetonka.
“I’m proud of the actions of the Golden Valley Police Department and assisting agencies, including the Crystal, Robbinsdale, St. Louis Park Police Departments, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, and the MN State Patrol, for their work to bring this dangerous situation to a safe conclusion with no serious injuries,” said Interim Golden Valley Police Chief Scott Nadeau.
“I am concerned that someone with such an extensive criminal history that includes burglary, robbery, and deadly weapons continues to be able to victimize our communities and put our citizens and police officers in harm’s way,” adds Nadeau. “We appreciate the citizen who contacted us last night to report a suspicious vehicle. While this event is unusual in our community, we encourage our resident’s to be vigilant and call when they see suspicious activity.”
