GVPDU logo with eagleThe Golden Valley Police Department offers an ongoing safety education series for citizens called GVPD University (GVPDU). These in-depth classes are open to anyone, though some courses are more adult-oriented than others.

2018 Citizen's Police Academy

If you live or work in Golden Valley, this is a chance to go behind the scenes at the Golden Valley Police Department.

Classes will be held at the Golden Valley Public Safety Building, 7800 Golden Valley Rd. There is no charge to attend the Academy. This eight-week course covers:

  • 911 Dispatch Center
  • Police Investigations
  • Crime Analysis
  • Hennepin County Crime Lab
  • Hennepin County Canine Unit
  • Hennepin County Violent Offender Task Force
  • SWAT Team
  • Use of Force
  • Patrol Operations

The GVPD hopes there will be a greater awareness and understand of law enforcement’s role in the community through the education provided by the Citizen's Police Academy.

Because of the sensitive nature of police work, a brief background check will be conducted to ensure that you meet our eligibility requirements. You must live or work in Golden Valley, be 21 years of age, have no felony convictions, and no misdemeanor arrests in the past three years. The Chief of Police may approve any waiver of these requirements.
