Community Engagement

The City of Golden Valley is looking for your input on a few major issues. Learn more by reading about the issue, then share your thoughts by attending meetings, taking surveys, and sending emails or letters. All input will be compiled into reports for City Council consideration and made available on the website for public review.

Current Surveys

Residents are encouraged to take any and all surveys. Responses may only be given once. Duplicate submissions will not be counted.

+ Downtown Study Phase II

Golden Valley’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan identified the downtown (the four quadrants surrounding Winnetka Ave N and Golden Valley Rd) as an area that required further study. In 2018, the City worked with the Urban Land Institute to investigate a number of questions around redevelopment. Phase II of the study, now underway, focuses on establishing an overall vision and guiding principles for preferred redevelopment and placemaking in the downtown core, potential redevelopment concepts for each quadrant of the downtown, and a more detailed bike/walk network plan. Comment deadline is Dec 3. Learn more here.

+ City Website Redesign

How well does the City's current website work for you? What would you like to see in a new website? Take our survey and let us know if you'd be interested in participating in upcoming focus groups as part of the redesign. Survey deadline is Dec 9, 2019.

+ Proposed Park Amenity Changes

Would you support adding an off-leash pet exercise area and a community garden to the City’s park system? Read the proposal and comments from recent meetings, and learn about upcoming meetings. This survey will open Nov 25 and close Dec 31. Learn more about the issue here.

+ Narrow Lots

The City is working to balance varying viewpoints about what type of construction should be allowed on narrow lots. Read about the issue from recent meetings, and learn about upcoming meetings on the Planning Commission page. The survey will open soon.

+ Bassett Creek Trail Expansion

Three Rivers Park District plans to seek federal funding in 2020 to construct a multi-use trail along the south side of Golden Valley Rd from Regent St to Bonnie Ln. Funding will also assist in making improvements to the existing trail section between Regent St and Douglas Dr. Three Rivers Park District is preparing 60 percent design plans for the trail to submit with the federal funding application. If the application is successful, funding is expected to be available in 2024.

Open houses will be held to gather public input and comment on the proposed trail through out the project. Watch the website for updates and schedules as well as additional ways to provide input.
